Eco prints
Hello!
After years of felting I would like to make the step into dying
I never did it before but I have the plan to felt a withe vest and then dye it with eco prints method.
So I hope you can give me some hints what plants to use and the process itself.
Thats how I get so far with my knowledge:
I felt my west - then I need to use a mordant bath to make the wool ready
and here it stops
Well I know I have to lay out the leafs on the west and roll it up tight. then steam it for at least an hour.
I also read that some people let the leaves freeze first before they use it.
What I also do not know: I dont want the vest to be just withe with the leaf prints I also would like to give it a light base color like a light green or yellow or even purple - how would I do that?
Would I make the eco prints first and then lay the wool in another dye-bath to get the base color or would I fist dye the base and then do the eco prints. Or can I do it in one step when I do not steam the vest with the leaves but put them direct in to the dye bath itself?
Also i am not quite sure what plants I can use - I have lot of evy here and fern, Blackberries, Foxclove and moos, also rhododendron.
I am aware that there is a huge list of plants I could use but maybe some of you used already one of the plants above and could give me an idea if they worked well.
Thanks in advance!
