Challenge Topics for 2010
Hi all! I hope everyone has enjoyed the challenges this year. We need to start thinking about what we would like for challenge topics next year. Please reply to this post with your ideas and then I'll collate them and make a list for 2010. So put on your thinking caps and let's come up with some interesting topics!

Re: Challenge Topics for 2010
Someone suggested 'self portrait' last year - I love this idea (loose interpretation of course!)

Re: Challenge Topics for 2010
It'd be good if someone posted instructions/photos of a technique and we all had a go at the same thing. I really liked seeing all the different results of everyone's textured felt, so if anyone has an idea for us all to try that would be great-especially if it's something not very common

zed, I like your idea about having a certain technique. Perhaps nuno?? I have only tried one small piece and decided I want to get a sander.

Re: Challenge Topics for 2010
I feel a bit ashamed since I havenīt entered a challenge for some time now
but I hope to find time for that in the future.
Here are some ideas :
* people
* the beauty of nature
* felt something that special for your country
* a special colour or colour combination for example black/white
* express a feeling for example joyGunilla

Re: Challenge Topics for 2010
Great ideas everyone - keep them coming. I like the idea of using a specific technique but I'm afraid as an example that if it is a wet felting technique that perhaps people that just do needlefelting wouldn't participate. I know it's a challenge to try and get people to do new things, but would they? So please let me know your opinion, if we listed a specific technique and it wasn't something that you knew how to do, would you participate in the challenge?

Re: Challenge Topics for 2010
I'd do any of these challenges for no prize at all! It's great just to get new ideas and vary projects. I've followed along with some before joining, now I can't wait to do them officially
I really really love the "new concepts" idea! It would help us all improve and sounds very inspiring!
Perhaps you could just include different techniques (one for needle, one for wet, etc) in a single challenge? That way, everyone can participate and learn something new. (And who says you can't combine all the new felting methods into one project, if you like?
) Or extend it into an entire quarter series for maximum education!
As for others? Umm.. Hmm. How about "Hybrids" as a challenge? That could be interpreted many ways and I'm sure it would be a lot of fun to see what everyone comes up with
Or.. a challenge like "Remember Where It Came From" or something? Basically, to create something that resembles the fiber source, e.g. needlefelt a 3D bunny with angora fur, or put a sheep design on your wet felted wool bag, etc. Could work for plant/exotic fibers too.
Maybe also a group of challenges with elements/settings in mind.. like Earth, Air and Sea (each a challenge) or.. Past (be it Medieval or Egyptian or whatever), Present (too general? perhaps instead a play on words - a "present" to gift someone IRL! Dec?), Future (can get crazy with scifi and such).. dunno, many possibilities!
I also like the previously posted idea of color themes. Sadly I missed the ones early '09! But maybe an entire quarter could go like this again? One challenge could be to use warm colors only, the next month would be cool colors, and then monochrome?
