What methods did you use? Were you painting? When I paint yarn or fiber (to steam) I soak it in vinegar. I use baby bottles to apply the dye and add at least 1/4 cup of vinegar to each bottle of...

Try to steam press the scarf with a press cloth on high linen setting. See if this helps, and if not, perhaps you did use too much fiber. Was it two layers on one side?
