Here is a class that you all won’t want to miss!

Mailiss Petterson is from Norway and I believe this will be her first time teaching in the United States and I am not sure if she will be coming here to teach again. She does fabulous garments and her nuno felt has that sophisticated finished look that we all strive for. And you get to do garments in the class!

Unfortunately I had to drop out of the class because my mother will be having another round of chemotherapy that week and I will be needed at home. However, I did find out that there are still openings in the class. The class requires some felting experience and I don’t know that it has been properly advertised to the felting community. So here it is! If you have never been to John Campbell Folk School you must go! Nice accommodations, lovely staff, fabulous food, great atmosphere, and a felting studio to die (or dye) for!

Nuno Felt for Contemporary Fashion
March 23-29, 2008
Scandinavian Heritage Week
Instructor: Mailiss Petterson

Tuition: $478.00 (there will be housing costs too so check the website or call them for the full amount)

The site was very slow to navigate this morning to I put as much information as I could in this email for everyone but included the website link as well since there is a picture of her work there.

Here is the class description copied from the John C. Campbell website:
Radiate like the Northern Lights when wearing the scarf and garment you will create out of nuno felt. The scarf will be your guide to learning the technique, then you will use this Oriental approach to felting to create a garment of your own or the instructor's design. Silk and merino wool will be your medium; a modern Nordic fashion statement will be your end reward. Felting experience is necessary. Please do not take this class if you have back or arm problems. General physical stamina is important; this can be heavy work if making anything bigger than a scarf or top.
I will be supplying hand dyed (variegated colors) silk fabric for the class in about 12 colorways and each student will need 15 – 20 yards for the class. Now that is some serious nuno felting!

If you want to see the colors I can email the pdf colorchart to you. (I have it on my website www.spinsterstreadle.com but I am struggling to make the link work – new at being my own webmaster!)
